This is a painting by painter Professor Jiang Zhaohe when he won the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, and it is titled "Daddy Will Never Come Back".
The little girl in the painting is on her knees, holding the national flag and looking up at the sky. The artistic conception of the picture reveals: the little girl's father was killed in the war of resistance against Japan, and she lost her parents. Without her father's love, she couldn't express her pain in words but only suppress his emotions, kneeling on the ground and staring ahead.
After 8 years of arduous and bloody anti-Japanese war, all the soldiers and civilians of the Republic of China finally achieved the victory at the expense of more than 3.22 million soldiers. This is such a ecstatic event, but the little girl's father will never come back. She can never hug and kiss her father again, being a girly child in her father's arms. The little girl can only find comfort in the small flag in her hand, her eyes are full of sadness and loss.
This painting "Daddy Will Never Come Back" was painted by Professor Jiang Zhaohe (1904-1986, native of Macheng, Hubei, born in Luzhou, Sichuan) at the time of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. At that time, the whole country was full of cheering, the painters had too many themes of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, but only Professor Jiang Zhaohe chose to paint a girl who lost her father. He wanted to convey that despite the victory in the war, countless broken families were the reality behind the victory, there were too many families lost their relatives.
He is known as the Master of Modern Chinese ink figure painting in the 20th century. He likes to integrate the advantages of Western painting with traditional Chinese painting, and creatively expands the skills of Chinese ink figure painting. Profound, reaching a new height in the history of Chinese figure painting, he was a professor at National Central University in Nanjing (renamed Nanjing University in 1949) and the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
After the establishment of the CCP Beijing Government, Professor Jiang Zhaohe's painting "Daddy Will Never Come Back" was almost forgotten by history, because the girl in the painting was holding a national flag with Blue Sky White Sun and Wholly Red Earth. Until 1993, 7 years after the death of Professor Jiang Zhaohe, Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House published "Complete Works of Jiang Zhaohe"(《蔣兆和作品全集》), which included "Daddy Will Never Come Back" for the first time, and held an special exhibition to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Mr. Jiang's birth. So the painting "Daddy Will Never Come Back" has finally brought to the world again.
